Private-sector employers can arrange their own holiday schedule, although they have been encouraged to follow the longer break where possible.

However, because National Day falls within a major domestic holiday period, you should expect some additional demand for transport and accommodation.

So if you're thinking: "I'll just turn up in Hanoi on 1 September and figure it out."

You could. But we wouldn't recommend making your entire Ha Giang adventure depend on the availability of a random last-minute bus.

Is September a Good Time to Ride the Ha Giang Loop?

September is a great time to do the Ha Giang Loop, although you should still come prepared for some changeable weather.

It's a transitional month in Ha Giang, as the wetter summer period begins to give way to drier conditions. 

Early September can still bring rain showers, so a waterproof jacket is very much worth squeezing into your bag. The upside? You may also get some wonderfully clear mountain days between the showers.

And then there's the scenery.

September is rice harvest season in parts of northern Vietnam, bringing changing colours to the rice terraces and mountainsides. 

So even if the weather decides to keep you guessing, the landscape is putting on quite a show.

Will the Ha Giang Loop Be Busy During National Day?

Potentially, yes.

This is probably the biggest practical consideration when planning your Ha Giang Loop on Vietnam National Day.

Hanoi is the historical centre of the 2 September story because Ba Đình Square is where Hồ Chí Minh read the Declaration of Independence in 1945.

National Day celebrations in the capital can include official ceremonies, public events, decorations, and large-scale commemorations.

The 2025 80th anniversary was particularly significant and included a major ceremony and parade at Ba Đình Square.

For 2026, specific public events and arrangements can vary, so don't assume that a schedule you see online from 2025 will automatically apply again.
