Ha Giang & Cao Bang (5 days/4 nights): Northern Frontier Route

Ha Giang is about 6–7 hours from Hanoi, so plan to arrive the day before the tour. Your first night at Bông Ha Giang Hostel is free (dorm). We can arrange your bus from Hanoi, Noi Bai airport, Sapa, Ha Long, Cat Ba or Ninh Binh.

After breakfast at the hostel, ride up the winding Bac Sum Pass and stop at Heaven's Gate for views over Tam Son town and the Twin Mountains. Visit Lung Tam Village to see local H'Mong women weaving traditional linen. In the afternoon, arrive in Yen Minh and check in at your homestay. Dinner, then an easy evening of karaoke and “happy water” with locals and fellow travelers.

After breakfast, leave Yen Minh and ride up Tham Ma Pass, famous for its winding mountain roads. Continue to Dong Van and the Vietnam–China border area, then ride the breathtaking Ma Pi Leng Pass. Take a boat trip on the Nho Que River and admire the dramatic cliffs of Tu San Canyon from below. Arrive in Meo Vac, check in at your homestay and enjoy dinner.

After breakfast, leave Ha Giang behind and ride into Cao Bang province. Pass through Bao Lac and its local villages, then tackle Me Pia Pass — one of the most dramatic switchback roads in the north. Continue to Pac Bo, a peaceful valley close to the Chinese border, and check in for the night.

Start the morning at Lenin Stream, with its clear blue-green water surrounded by limestone mountains, and learn about the area's history. Then ride through quiet countryside to Ban Gioc Waterfall, one of the largest waterfalls in Southeast Asia, on the Vietnam–China border. Check in at a local homestay and enjoy a peaceful evening.

Wake up early to see Ban Gioc Waterfall in the morning light. Then visit the Eye of God Mountain (Núi Thủng), a mountain with a huge natural hole through its peak. Ride on to Cao Bang City for lunch — the tour ends here. The 3:00 PM bus back to Hanoi is not included, but we can book it for you.
